SWIFTS CLUB ANNUAL REPORT. The thirteenth annual report of the Swifts Amateur Swimming Club congratulates members on the success attained during the past year. It goes on to say :—The lady members arc deserving of special congratulation on the success achieved, especially on the occasion of their first carnival, which was held in March. At this carnival Miss A. O'Leary won the 100 yards championship race in the. excellent time of 8G seconds, and Miss M. M'Cabe carried off the schoolgirls' provincial championship. It is with extreme regret that the committee has to record tho loss of one of its earliest workers bv the death of Mr. J. F. Williams, who wits elected a life member in 1906. The club's twelfth annual carnival drew a record number of spectators to To Aro Baths, .lho principal racing event was the eontest for tho Walker and Hall cup, the conduct of which was handed over to this olnb by the Wellington Centre. . Mr. B. C. Freyberg represented the club in outside events, winning the 440 yards Wellington championship, and gaining third place in-the 220 yards New Zealand championship. A junior championship race of 220 yards, held by the Wellington Centre, was won by G. R. Paterson, with H. Cap. per second, both swimmers being membors. The Swifts water polo team played six games, winning four of these, los'inf ono. and drawing one. In its matches with the ultimate winners (Thorndon), Swifts were beaten by one goal in the first game while, in the second, neither side was able- to score. A record field 'of sixteen starters contested the annual mile race, which was won bv P. Grey, with K Kusscll second and W. Morpeth third. In this toco badges were offered for swimmers .breaking tho club standard of 30 minutes, G. R, Paterson being the only ono to gain the distinction. The animal series of races for the C. Smith cup resulted in the trophy being won by (} Neal, after keen competition. As a ro'silt of the visit of Mr. W. Henry, of the Royal Life-Saving Socictv, a centre of that body was formed in Wellington to which the Swifts Club was the first to affiliate. A creditable showing was rrindo bj-the squad of members in the life-savin-drills under the instructorship of Mr B C. Freyberg, whose good work is deserving of special mention. During tho seasou iorty-one events were decided, drawing a total of 75G entries., and trunhios to the value of .£55 7s. Gd. were distributed among iO winners.
