The fourtecuth interprovincial Jlnjjby contest between tbe Southland and Wellington representatives was played here to-tlav, in bittorlv cold weather, and before nn attendance of about 2000 spectators. A strong westerly bro™ was blowing across the ground, and this kept most ol this play on the eastern boundary. The- visitors proved much too clever 1 for the local men, and won by 27 points to 9. The Southland forwards generally held their own throughout the game, but their backs were lamentably weak in comparison with the northern side, and frequently niado mistakes which Wellington did not fail to turn to good account. The Wellington men, both back and forward, were frequently penalised lor offsida play, and lost many opportunities as a consequence. In tho first spell Wellington had all tho better of • the play, and scored 1G points to tho local men's 3. Evenson, Wilson, I'. .Roberts, and Cunningham scored the tries, E. Koborts converting Evcnson's try, while iU'Farlane added the major points from Wilson's score. Martin registered .Southland's Ihreo points from a penalty kick. Southland set up a hot attack at the opening of the concluding half, and, for upwards of twenty minutes, the visitors were on* the defensive. Southland scored from a forward rush at tho comer, but Martin's kick was resultless. On resuming, Wellington again got into trouble, and Mitchell, Biggar, and Eidland took the ball across their line, where the first-named was successful in tho raco for it.

Although Southland had several shots at goal at this stage, they failed to add to their total. ■Wellington, however, took command in tho latter part of the spell, adding eleven points, E. Roberts, Cunningham, and Evcnsou scoring, and Houlihan convertins Cunningham's try. The gaiuo ended with Southland on the attack. Mr. I. Jenkins, of Invercargill, was referee. RUGBY UNION MEETS. The Management Committee of the Wellington Rugby Union met last night. Mr. S. Brown presided. It was reported that there was a balance of ,£2 ss. Sd. from the Wellington representatives' visit to Marlborough. The receipts had been XlO. A third-class player named Russell, a member of tho Southern Club, was suspended for the first four playing Saturdays of nest season, for (as captain of a team drawn to play Porirna) including a second-class player iu his fifteen. It was decided to request the second-class player (Wintered) to appear before the union.
