The harbourmaster at Hokianga reports that the shallow spit to the south of main ohannol is working to the. northward. Soundings taken by local steamers at the latter end of August and early in September show that tho south channel has commenced to close up again, and the north channel is deepening and opening out as the maiu channel similar to last year. Tho latest soundings show 17ft. L.W.S. with flagstaff bearing E. by $ N. and only 13ft. L.W.S. along- the line of bearing of flagstaff E. by N. $ N. whero in July this line showed 17ft, Charts, etc., affected: Admiralty Charts Nos. 2525 and 1091 a; "New Zealand Pilot," eighth edition, 1508, Chapter viii, page 201.
