DISPOSAL OF THE HEPPLE FUND

• — __« : TO BE PAID TO PUBLIC TRUSTEE. A conference of tho various representatives of'subscribers to tho Hepple Fund was 'held at lower Hutt last night. Mr. E. P. Bunny (Mayor) presided, and there was a good attendance, including ladies. The chairman explained that the conference had been called for the purpose of deciding the disposition of money. He was of the opinion -that the fund should be handed to the Public Trustee unconditionally, as that Department had had experience in administering some 40 or 50 similar cases. The Public .Trustee would be in a position to know whether, at any time, a change in the amount distributed was'advisable.,. Four per cent, interest would be given, and there would be no charge for management. Mr. Baldwin moved:—"That a subcommittee, consisting of Messrs. Aitken, Freeth, Bunny, M'Ewari, Rev. B. Harris, Mesdames Bunny and Knight, and the mover, be set up to go into the matter of disbursement with the Public Trustee, and.to draw up conditions for his guidance." ' ' • . Mr. M'Ewan l seconded. Mr. Bawden Harris remarked that, during tho past two weeks, he had received a large amount of correspondence urging that the fund be handed over to tho Public Trust/Office. Harris) 'announced that the total amount collected, as far as he was able to ascertain, was .E1646 75% Exqlusive of this amount there, was a list yet to come in, and several promises. Mr. Bunny, concluding the meeting, remarked that he was sorry that unpleasantness had crept in, while the fund was being raised, but everybody had worked well, and deserved every credit, especially the Rev.
