The question of extensions to the building v. as discussed by the meeting, the matter of starting an art gallery being held in special view. Mr. H. Vital statistics for Wanganui for the month of July were as follow:—Births 55 (previous July, 45); deaths 12 (11); mar riaees 1-1 (12). The rainfall at Wanganui during the past month was 5.0!) inches (previous July !!.37 inches); a total of 2.G inches fell on July 9 and 10. Dairying has re-commenced in this district. Tlio first factory to commence operations was Okoia, which started yesterday. Trouble with the power plant resnlted in a stoppage of 2J hours in the tramway traffic to-day. Temporary repairs were effected, and the service resumed, but it will be some (lavs before the fault is permanently remedied. Additions to the local territorial force through the operation of the new defence ■scheme will involve the creation of eight new companion, makin? a total'for the. towTi force of a thousand men.
