(From Our Special Correspondent.) Palmerston, July 31. A definite announcement has been made by Mr. Thomson, of Linton, that ho will bo a candidate for the Otaki seat at the general election.,. ..,.. The Palmerston Coursing Club will hold its next meeting on August 21, 25, and 215. Among the events to l>o run will bo the Waterloo Cup. Special prayers were offered at All Saints' Church yesterday for tho avoidance of war in connection with recent developments among the Powers. Major-Genera] Godley, accompanied by Captain Thornton, spent the week-end in PMmerston, as the guests of Captain Levin. Fedinsr reference was made in Boveral of the Palmerston churches yesterday to the death of Mr. T. E. Taylor. Much interest was manifested here in the result of the sculling race between Arnst and Pearce. Much satisfaction was expressed that the New Zealander had. once more prevailed. Th« Mayor of Palmerston (Mr. J. A. Nash) is spending a few days in Taranaki. On Friday evening the employees of Dustin's, Ltd., mado a handsome presentation to Miss Tarrant, who has been a member of their staff for a number of years. The presentation was mado by Mr. D. E. Dustin. Mr. A. J. Shaler, a local breeder of collies, was successful in taking several prizes at tho Auckland dog show.
