Last Week's Yacht Racing. , , ■ Tho first-class yacht ; raco last-Saturday was raced under perfect weather condi-, tious. A nice fresh -southerly breeze prevailed, and : there Was hiirdly a. ripple on tho water:. ThevMahina-'took. the lead from tho start;. h.u't was overtaken after rounding Ivorokoro buoy. -She was followed by the White' Heather, Muritai,. Siren,' and 'lolantlie.' On the . run to Korokoro file Muritai caught on Whito Heather, and passed her, holding .second position' on the run; -.'On rounding the buoy the "Heather" overtook and passed the Muritai, and then passed the Mahina. This brought the "Heather" in the lead, which she held until the finish. On timeallowance Jluritai secured first place| with Mahina' second,'and Siren tliirtl. • All the yachts carried spinnakers on the run. This. is. the first occasion for quite a long timo that Muritai. has been seen in the racing ranks. : ,She. is a fast boat when she is handled properly, and she is in tho hands of fliose can do it. . Winifred got away with a good lead, 'which she -maintained until pear tho finish, when slio was overtaken by tho Ivaitare and Redwing... The race resulted in Kaitare winning from Redwing by a small margin, Winifred getting .third place. . How Fares tho Fleet? The yawl Isca was launched on Thurs-' day, after lieing up foi' cleaning and a coat of conper 'paint. :On Wednesday evening the .Mahaki was launched at* Martin's, Bay, after having undergone a cleaning in preparation for Anniversary: Day. , ,Mr. J. Barnard's new scow will probably be launched -in - time for .regatta day. If she,-is, and if tho wind is as usual on that day, .her sailing qualities will be well tested. . The ICotiri went over to Port Underwood on' Saturday -last, and arrived thero at midnight. After a short stay, slio arrived back at the Bpat Harbour on Sunday evening, v. • The To Aro Sailing Club will get off a raco this afternoon. On Sunday quite:a number of yachts and launches spent tho day at Scorching Bay. Tho yacfils at tho Bay were: Mahina, Ngaira. Muritai. Ruihi, Nancy Stair, and White Heather. The Mahina went out oil Saturday evonand spent the night at Rona Bay. In tho morning she was compelled to shift owing to tho wind. Tho races postponed.at the Ileretaunga Boating Club's Regatta, on New Year's Day, will be raced off at Petono this afternoon. The races arc:—A motorlaunch raco and one for 18ft. and under centre-board boats.
