One of the London dailies is responsible for the statement that Mr. John Burn's in his boyhood days frequently carried clubs as a caddie on Wimbledon Common, and it is believed that he is the 6nly caddie who has risen to the rank of statesman. Mr. Burns was one of the three members of the House of Commons Committee that, considered the. St. Andrews Links Bill in 18!>3, when Old Tom was amongst those called up to Westminster to give evidence before the committee. Mr. Burns lias never been beaten at golf. He has taken part in only one game, which was a foursome!
