Asked as In why such a cour-p had been taken, when the biennal election of councillors is only three months' distant, Jlr. Harlow stated that, under the amended Municipal Corporations Act he had to choose between public business and his own. HUTT RIVER BOARD. A meeting of the Hutt River Board . was held last evening, those present being ' Messrs. R. Stevens (chairman), Sladden, and I'eterkin. Mr. R. The tenant of Gear Island bad commenced to exterminate noxious weeds thereon. The river had remained exceptionally loyr during the whole of the month. JOTTINGS.' Mr. R. H. Wilson, of the firm of Bornthorne, Wilson, and M'lntyre, of ketone, leaves by the Climaroa for Sydney on February 10 to connect with the White Star liner Medic for England. Mrs. Wilson and Miss Peach will accompany Mr. Wilson. Mr. A. E. Roots, of Alicetown, has been Risked to allow himself to be nominated 'for the vacancy on the Hutt Borough Council. Stevens had been elected as chairman of the Hutt River Board last evening he stated that the only regrettable thing about proceedings in the past had been the fact that so many meetings had had to lapso owing to members not being in attendance..
