ONSLOW BOROUGH COUNCIL.

The Onslow Borough Council met last evening. There were present: Councillors B. Lynneberg (deputy-Mayor), F. Kiornan. \V. H. Bowden. G., \V. Darvall. 'IX A. Bannister, C. Aplin, ju:ir., E. S. Slafford, and W. R. Plimnier. :

It was agreed; on tho motion of • tlio deputy-Mayor, Councillor Stafford seconding, that tho council eiitor into-nil'agree-ment with the Wellington Gas Company for tho supplying of . public street lighting with coal gas whenever requested by the council in terms, already agreed upon as to price, timo and duration of contract.

In view of the fact that tho -company's solicitors have now agreed with tho Borough Council's solicitor that to mako a valid contract it'is not necessary to take any public lights,,tho council decided not to take any public, lights at present. The council has tho nssnranca of tho managing director of.the Gas Company that the provision relating to public lights was inserted only.for tho.purpose-of making the contract valid, and not with a view to obtaining revemio by supplying gas for public lighting^

■ It was dccidcd to add a penal charge of 10 per cent, on all ordinary rates unpaid by February 10, and 011 all Kaiwarra drainage rates unpaid on March 10. The deputy-Mayor was authorised to make 1 arrangements for an extension of the lease of the present borough office?. Accounts .totalling .£162 17$. Od. on the district fund were passed for payment. A petition asking for an alteration in the boundaries of the Kaiwnrra ward-was referred to a special committee, with instructions to report to a special meeting of the council on February 2.

Ou tho motion of Councillor Stafford it was decided to write to flie Railway Department asking it to'construct cattlestops at the Khandallah railway station, ;£'2o. to ha paid 011 completion of tlie work and ,£2O next year.
