STATUE OF INDUSTRY UNVEILED.

MARINE • ENGINEERS FOREGATHER. Most of the marine engineers from the. boats in the harbour were present yesterdav morning at the. club rooms of the "Institute, of Marine Engineers,' Many' marine engineers' resident *in the city were also "there. j . The Minister for Marine (tho Hon. J, A. Millar) unveiled' tho statue of industry," which. Mr. .F, Reddaway, head of the ' firm of. Reddaway and . Co., Manchester, lias presented to the institute, and which now adorns tho front staircase of the institute buildings. Wallace,. president of the. institute in the Wellington district, in a felicitous speech, received the presentation Oil behalf of the Engineers. The. institute, had expressed their gratitude in return by electing Mr. Reddaway. a life, member, and thoy had .also, sent to Sit William Hdll-Jones, High Commissioner, a gold medal' of the institute, with the request that lie .would formally present it on their behalf to Mr. Reddaway,. and invite loading marine engineers to be present. Ho also eulogised Mr. Millar as Minister for Marino: The strength of tha local branch of. the institute he gave as 800 members. The kings of tho industry iu the 'Dominion were in that body. The Hon. J. Carroll, Mr. T. Ronaynf (General Manager of Railways), and Mr. C. H; C. Tewsley (chairman of the Chamber, of Commerce) were among those present. ■ After the concluding of the unveiling ceremony, the guests were invited upstairs to the lecturo hall by Mr. A. R.' Hislop,' jun., representative for Messrs. Reddaw.ay anil Co. Mr. J. P. Luke, M.P., proposed the health of Mr. F. Reddaway, which was responded to by Mr. A. It. Hislop,jun., 011 behalf of Mr. Reddaway. "The institute of Marine Engineers" was proposed by tho Hou. James .Carroll, coupled with tho name of the president and secretary, who responded in suitable terms.
