LISBON GAS STRIKE.

Tlio gas strikers damaged the mains serving the suburbs. Tho public throughout were antagonistic to tho strikers, and the Provisional Government received an imposing demonstration of goodwill. Battalions of volunteers, who were enrolled after tho proclamation of tho Republic, marched to tho various Ministerial offices, accompanied by. bands, and thousands of people, to assure the Ministers of their support. Immediately' afterwards the city was startled by explosions, due to tho results of sabotage, and - the leakage of gas through tho sowers, whero it was ignited by rat-catchers' lanterns. Threo men were seriously burned, and several houses damaged.
