FROST AND SNOW IN SUMMER.
■ A NEW ZEALAND 'HAEITT. ' The cold snap which, broke over tileDominion. late last Week wa9 felt- severely in some of the farming • districts. In the South Island, there was snow in' the 'stretch of farming , country about Waimate; In tho North Island-the cold-was not so severe, but it is rarely .that any part of tho island has frost, just after New Year time, Tet eleven degrees of frost were registered at Wereroa Experiment Farm on Friday night; tho thermometer reading was 21 degrees. In higher country snow fell, notably 011 the Tararua Jlangcs. ■. The effect df the cold, agriculturally, has not been reported from the rural districts, but it .is unlikely that au"y damago was done, except, perhaps, in isolated instances.
