EASTBOURNE BOROUGH COUNCIL.

4 A meeting of the Eastbourne Borough Council was held 011 Saturday evening, those present being the Mayor (Mr. 11. W. Shortt), Councillors Foley, -Robertson, Boss, Russell, Sanson, AYills, and tho town clerk.' A question as to the suitability 4 of steel "pipes for sen-age purposes having been raised at a previous meeting, Mr. Mostayer, civil engineer (who recommends steel pipes), forwarded a copy 01 a ruporfc from a Melbourne firm upon their use in the Melbourne scheme. Ihis showed that after eighteen years' constant use there had not been the least complaint, and there was not likely to be. The Melbourno Board had lately let a large contract ior the supply of similar pipes for an additional outfall sewer. The town clerk was directed to communicate with a New Zealand local authority, which, it was stated by one councillor, had trouble with steel sewer ?*ho Foreshores Committee brought down au interim report upon the proposed acquisition of certain strips of beach land. Further negotiations were left to the committee. . The Loans Committee submitted a report recommending that details concerning the proposed water, and sewer schemes be circulated among ratepayers for their information. It was . further rccouimcndcd that a public meeting be held on January 28, and that a poll for the loan be taken ou-February 22. The report, after much .discussion, was adopted. The town clerk was directed to inquire as to tho possibility of petting a police constable for tho borough.• Tho matter of tho supposed action of tho council concerning trawling in the "Wellington* Harbour was referred to. It was freely stated that the council had never taken any action, as alleged, in the matter.
