LIVE STOCK SALES.

Messrs. Dalgety and Company report:— At our Wanganui sale yesterday wo yard•ed 1000 sheep and 130 cattle. Competition for ' sheep was keen, all lines, with the exception of one small pen, changing hands Tinder the hammer. Cattle- were rather dull of sale, the prices for several classes being somewhat* lower than of late. Wo nuote:—Shorn fat and forward wethers, 14s. Id.; woolly f.m. ewes with lambs, 195.; cull do., 12s. 10d.: shorn,'do;, nil counted. 6s. 3d.; two-tooth -wether 6, Us.'ld.; twotooth- ewes, 12s. 9d. to 12s. IM. to 12s. lid. ; cull two-tooths, Bs. 7d.; forward bullocks, £6 lis.; two-year steers, bad colours, £3 2s. 6d.; 15-mouth Polled-Angus cross heifers, £3 2s. 6d.; store cows, £3; forward do., £4 165.; bulls, £4 175.-6 d. to £5.

Messrs. Dalgety and Co., Ltd., report having held their fortnightly salo in tho Waipoua yards yesterday, when they offered a very small yarding, but all lots advertised came forward. The entry comprised only cattle,. and a fair entry of >igs. Amongst the catt-lo offered were a very good line from Messrs. Barton Bros., Wataikona, which realised the good price of, £7 os. 6d. All other lines were sold under the hammer at late ruling prices. Quotations:—Three and four-year-old steers, £7 os. 6d.; three-year-old steers, £5 13s. to £5 175.; fat cows. £5; forward empty heifers, to £3 4s. Pigs ;—Well-grown slips, 10s. 6d., 10s. 9d., 125., to 13s. 3d.; porkers* to 255.

Messrs. Abraham and Williams, Ltd.. report on their Johnsonvillo sale, held yesterday,' as follows:—A smaller yarding of sheep and cattle came forward, and sold at late rates. At Addington there wcro fairly large entries of stock aad a large - 'attendance. Fat cattle showed a further decline, and fat lambs were also easier. Fat sheep.sold well until towards the end of the sale, when there was a decline in the ewes. Pigs sold better than last week, and store cattle, and store sheep improved in demand in consequence of late rains.

Over 2000 store sheep were penned, all classes being represented, including woolly and shorn sheep. There was a good attendance of buyers, and both demand and prices showed an improvement. Woolly wether hoggets sold up to 145.; shorn wether hoggets, Bs. sd. to 10s. 7d.; mixed sexes, 95.; woolly, owe hoggets, 16s. 3d. to 16s. 7d.; shorn wethers, to 13s. 5d.; shorn ewes with lambs, 7s. Id. to 9s. 9d.; aged woolly ewes with lambs, 95., all counted; woolly merino wethers. Us. 9d. Tho yariing of fat lambs totalled 2254, or-about 400 less than last week. There was good demand for export, but prices showed a decline, of several pence per head. Freezing lambs, of which 1674 were taken by exporters, made lis. 6d. to 17s. There were 469 purchased by butchers, the lowest price being 9s. 6d. Eignty-Ecvcu were bought, by .a grazier at 9s. 2d., and 24 were passed. • Tho entry of fat sheep was not quite so largo as was the case last week, and tho market opened c well for both wethers and ewes. The former maintained their values which, with tho exception of some cases, were well up to last week's level. Towards the end of the sale, however, when tho butchers' requirements had been filled, ewes . fell away in price,- and were difficult to dispose of even at low rates. The range of prices was:—Shorn .wethers, prime, 16s. 6d. to 215.; lighter, 14s. 3d. to 165.; woolly ewes, 18s. 9d. to 235.;.. prime shorn ewes, 14s. 6d. to 17s. 3d.; others, lis. 4d. to 145.; woolly hoggets, 16s. lOd. to 17s. 6d.

There were 236 cattle penned of fair average quality. Some .of ' the leading butchers having secured supplies privately, the demand was weaker, and prices showed a decline. Steers made £7 ss. to £10 10s., and extra, to £2 10s.; heifers, £5 15s. to £8 55.; cows, £5 to £8 17s. 6d., equal to 265. to 295. for prime, 225. to 255. for medium, and 20s. to 21s. 6d. for cow and inferior' per 1001b. An average yarding of vealers was chiefly composed of small animals, and. prices ranged from 6s. to 505., to size and quality. A medium entry of store cattle met with. improved demand,, especially fifteen to eighteen months sorts' and dry cows. Fifteen to eighteen-month sorts made 38s. to 395.; two-year steers, £3 15s. to £4; two-year heifers, £3 155.; and dry cows, 30s. to £4 ss. Dairy cows made £3 iCs. to £9 ss.

The yarding of pigs was smaller than for the past,few weeks, and the demand for fats was, .therefore, better, a good clearance being,effected..-Choppers sold up to £3 10s.; large baconers, 50s. to 575.; Binaller, 425.. 6d. to 48s. 6d.; equal to 41s <i. to 41s. 2d. per lb.; large porkerß, 30s! to 385.; smaller, 235. to 285., enual to 41d. to 4?d. per lb.; large stores, 245. to 305.; medium, 17s. to 235.; small sorts, 10s. to ICs. Weaners sold better than at the two previous sales, making 4s. 3d. to Bs. 6d.

THE BUKNSIDE MAEKET. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) Dunedln, November 30; I Burnside stock market:—Pat cattle: 122 head yarded. Practically all the prime cattle forward came from Canterbury and Southland, most of the local entry being of. medium weight and Quality. There was fair demand, and prices- were fully as good .as last . week's rates. Prime bullocks, £11 10s. to £12 10s.; extra, £13 to £15 10s.; medium to good, £9 ss. to £11; light, £28 ss. to £8 155.; best cow 3 and heifers, £9 to £11.25. 6d.; medium, £7 to £8 55.; light,. £5 10s. to £6 15s. • Pat sheep: 1920 penned, more than half of which were shorn. With a few exceptions . the quality was not particularly good,' and the proportion of old owes was larger 'than of late. Sheep in wool were ngt in much request. Generally there was fair; competition, but prices on the whole showed a decline of about Is. per head. Gd.; medium to good, 135.. to 14s. 6d.; light, 10s. to 12s. Pigs: There . was a large yarding of all classes, the total entry being 272.
