MUNICIPAL ORCHESTRA.
;: ■ ■ THE FIRST CONCERT/. ■ -■ ~ The first concert of the recently-organ-ised municipal orchestra will be given in the Towri'Hall on Wednesday next, under the baton* of Mr; J. Maugnnn Barnett. It is not intended that the orchestra •will, plunge straightway into the very .highest class of orchestral music, nor does it aspire to anything approaching perfec-. tion. .Everything must have a beginning. The programme will, nevertheless:...be .highly interesting. Arnong the. numbers will be a couple of movements of' Haydn's Symphony; dainty music which smacks of lavender and old lace, four movements of the brilliant "Lβ Cid" ballet muSic of Massenet; , , the pompously impressive prelude to the third act of "Lohengrin" (Wagner), and the Cornelius March which Mr. Barnett has familiarised to patrons of his organ recitals. Mr. Herbert Bloy, who is the leader of the orchestra, will also bo heard in solo work. Such a programme, taken with the occasion,- should attract alarge audience.'
