The management of. the Consolidated group report the operations and developments "for September. as-follow:— ... -. ' Blackwater Mines:,'; All levels ,have been, extended north- 'The. tunnel from Greek's Creek,'76ft.; No. 1 level'-north, 66ft.,bringing the face to; a point 215 ft.. from-.the boundary. . Ttie stringer in this drive haß been ■ following '• the cut: out at 240 ft. from the boundary,-and the'drive is now pursuingl the supposed reef track.. Assay'values average: 13.77dwt.''over r a width of 6in. Southwards this level was extended' 57ft. 6in. on'a'continuous reef which has since, faulted.,-; No.'2 level, north (Joker) has been; driven : 82ft. 6in. crossing (by 22ft;) the. "Prohibition" boundary. No distinct reef is showing.. Immediately the drive reaches a point..at right angles to the "Prohibition" crosscut it is proposed to crosscut into.both walls, but tho No. 5 rise from' this level has; since reaching .a height ; of 66ft. carried aJ:reef of an average value.of. 16 69dwt. over'a width of 14.09 ft: It has' now holed through.to No. 1 level. The extension .of No. A level north . totals 39ft., locating the face at 298 ft. from, the boundary. /This development discloses nothing of importance. No. 4 level north has been extended 81ft. 6inion the reef. : No. 4 level south was extended 79ft. for tho month, and hasl : shown a blank of 21ft. from, a point,lft. south of Station B, which is succeeded by Block B (23ft. in length). The average value-of six assayß was (20.88dvrt.. over a:widtli. of ,17.61 inches.' Another blank of 10ft. i ensues, alternated by Block 0. Over some:2sft. developed 6even assays, average 11.67cVwt. over a width of 12in. The low; level south drive from the shaft was extended, 73ft. 6in., and the, low. level tunnel 80ft.', .leaving at the end of ;the month only 45ft. to he driven to connect. The sampling en route has been, satisfactory. .The battery returns are:—3"oo tons 'crushed, returning 1688oz. 6dwt„ valued at £6897 Bs. Id.. 2121 tons cyanided, returning 2320z. 7dwt., valued at £673 16s. 3d. Progress. Mine.-Shortage of labour continues to retard development work in'this mine, but strenuous efforts are being made to' overcome tho ; difficulty.-. Tho accommodation.'for single and married men is ing considerably extended, and it ; "is thought : that good miners will be attracted. The most .interesting features of. the operation 'is of course the; increased .'returns, in the main attributable, to the mining' of the "Pioneer" block referred to in last report. As usual, the smelter had a satisfactory run, the output of-5161 tons.crushed yieldins 17650z. 17dwt., valued at £7239 10s.; 3095 tons cyanided yielding 310oz. 19dwt., valued at £1022 4s. lid.; 44 tons of concentrates wero made of an' assay value of £937. Wealth of Nations: Development has been energetically .prosecuted, the most important of which.being the. extensions', of No. 10 south drive, where the reef ■ has been struck. Twenty-nine feet have been driven, showing an average value of 16.19 tlwt. : over, a width of 4Bin. Other workings maintain' the. general grade of the mine, and. do not call for comment. Tho battery returns are; 1820 tons crushed, yielding 4960z., valued at £2042 17s. 4d.; 1610 tons cyanided, yielding 1670z., valued at £509.145.;1d.'.:
