Masterton, October II;The monthly meeting of the Masterton County Council was held'-yesterday afternoon, Councillor Welch presiding. ■ • Tho result of the plebiscite of ratepayers of; Alfredton riding on tho proposal to amalgamate with Eketahuna county was , announced. As a majority of four were opposed to amalgamation, • and as a special Act; would be required to bring , it about, it was decided to take no further, action. The Inspector-General of Hospitals asked if the .council was,willing; to 'delegate its 1 powers under the Health. Act. to the Wairarapa Hospital and Charitable .Aid Board. The council . decided • to appoint a: delegate to the conference to be held in Wellington to discuss 'the. matter. It was reported, that the secretary: of .the-local branch of the Drivers' .Union had " asked that a: man in the employ of the council, who , does casual' carting,' be . either .dismissed -or bompelled to join the union.
