JOURNAL OF AGRICULTURE.
THE NEW PTJBUCATION. The first number of the "Journal of Agriculture" camo to hand yesterday. In introducing the publication the Minister, the Hon. T. Mackenzie, says"The wide-field of operations of tho Department requires such a publication,-to replace the annual'report. No'annual report can supply tile means of securing close ami immediate relations between tho farmer and tho Department. That annual report was practically tho sole medium for the publication of expert advice aiul for tho notification of the results of the investigations undertaken by the Department; the value of those results, and most decidedly their general interest, demand early and timely publicity. It is obvious that this was impossible through the pages of a year-book. Hence this monthly /journal. ' The' annual report will continue to be presented to Parliament, in accordance with the custom of all Government ' Departments. It will also be published and available as in past years. It will, however, become a review of tho year's work, and refer but .briefly to tho detailed work of the Department and to proposed developments. The journal will be the medium of publication of subjects embraced in leaflets and bulletins." .The paper contains a good deal of agricultural information, including articles by members of the Department's staff.
