SPORTS GROUNDS.

ALLOTTED FOR THE WINTER. After having gone carefully into the , question of the allocation of the-various city reserves to sports bodies for' the winter season, the Reserves Committee of the City Council recommended the following at last night's meeting: SATURDAY AFTERNOONS. Basin Reserve.—Wellington Football Association, noi-th-irest. portion running alongside fence; Lacros'se Association, southern portion; Australian Football League, north-eastern portion. ■ Newtown Park.—Wellington Rugby TJmon, No. 1 ground; Wellington Football Association, No. 2 ground. ■Duppa Street Park.—Upper ground: Wellington I'ootball Association, No. 1 ground; Wellington Rugby Union, No. 1 ground; -lower ground: Wellington Hockey Association, No. 1 ground; Lacrosse Association, No. 1 ground. Kelburne Park.—Wellington Hockey Association, No. 1 ground; Wellington Football-Association, No. 1 ground. Nairn Street Reserve.—Wellington Football Association, whole ground. WEDNESDAY AFTERNOONS. Mr. Luke said,the Kugby Union did not feel that they 'had been fairly treated. They had one of the Newtown Park grounds last year, and only used it on half-a-dozen occasions.- The committee had done its very best to meet the sports bodies, and if it could, during the. year, give sports bodies any further facilities it would do so. The Mayor thought the distribution of play-grounds was lop-sided and unfair. The Rugby Union should get more grounds. He also thought Anderson Park should be used as a playground. .

Mr. Luke: "It is not going 'to be shut tip. It will be "used for'spbrts." ; Councillor Atkinson wondered that the committee had not made room to ■ 'tip-cat" and marbles when they had turned out Rugby football. Councillor Cohen pointed out that the Rugby Union had' forty or fifty grounds in different parts of the city and suburbs. .

The Mayor: "And they pay for them. '

■ After some further discussion it was moved that the report be referred back to the committee. This was lost- by one vote,, the voting being 6 to 7, and the report was adopted. ,
