The new Bishop- of Waiapu is paying his first ofiieial visit" to'the Poverty Bay portion of. his diocese, end, to-night, he was tendered a civic'-reception in the Garrison-Hall: About, 1000 people attended, and speeches of welcome were de* nverd by. Mr./\V. D. L'yshar (Mayor), Mr. Jonnlowmley, representatives of the local Anglican clergy, Father Lane, representing the Reman Catholics, and the Eev. Mr. Grant representing the Nonconformist ministers, whilst an address was also read on behalf'of Maori members of the diocese. . • ] ' Bishop Averill, in reply,. expressed his keen appreciation of the .great kindness which he was receiving-in his new district,- which helped, to compensate for the regret which he.felt in leaving his old parish in.
