ACTIVITY AT-KRUPPS.
'. The ' following ■ quotation (says -a Unionist'paper) is'from a; .letter written by a railway engineer who recently visited Germany on business,'and .-had an opportunity,;of seeing the;• great, iron works of that country:— w. „;..', - ■ " ' "When'in Germany-'l>> was much impressed with the intense : ' activity '• of Krnpp's and leading locomotive, carriage, and wagon .shops, not becauso tho trade ol German railways require such additions, but it is said the Government require to know where engines and;vehicles can be had if wanted. These places are all on overtime, and 'Krupps are working twenty-four hours per day with 66,000 men on their pay . sheets. Tho Essen works are full of. gunsj' armourTplates, turrets, and, platforms, for ships and land forts. It is q'uife ; manifest they are being made for a purpose.. Thevcontrast with -Armstrong's and Vickers's partially-employed places is most striking. Germany means to do something, before long."
