OVER-LORDSHIP.
ON THE PEIMAIE'B : EECENT ADDBESS. : The London, correspondent oil tbs "Yorkshire Post" writes as follows.— "The reported address of the Primate.of ; New Zealand (the Bishop of Dunedin) to hie General Synod has occasioned earn* comment. Dr. Neville'e statement ae to the impropriety of a .self-governing. Church submitting to the over-lordship of a Church in some other country is on general grounds unimpeachable; but his reference to the new Archbishop at Sydney making a declaration of dination to. the Archbishop of Canterbury is more questionable. I was present at Archbishop Wrighfs consecration at St Paul's on St. Bartholomew's Day, and noted in this column at the time, that the path of due observance to the Archbishop was not tendered to him, though it was taken by Bishop FeTguson-Davie; who was consecrated to Singapore. This was not. only in accordance' with the; rubric; but was . canonically right, .as Singapore holds mission under the See of Canterbury, and is not, so far, a suffragan see of any province. If and when Singapore becomes part of a province, the Bishop's oath, will be deemed to 'enure' to the Metropolitan of |uch province. But the Archbishop of Canterbury has too much sense of ecclesiastical propriety, to say nothing • of '. 'morality, , ' to require a meaningless of submission; nothing of the kind was done at the consecration of T)r. Wright, and one is curious, to know, on what' other grounds (if: any) the . New Zealand Primate bases.his complaint. , '. : :
