The London wool sales begin this evening, and the general opinion appears to be that values will, be maintained, if there is not an actual advance. The latest report from Bradford is that the market is quiet with prices firm. ' Merino tops show a hardening tendency. At the Antwerp sales last week very little business was . done, for out of 6475 bales offered, only 2036 were sold. Merino wool 'sold up to January prices, while crossbred was slightly easier. Apart from this there is nothing to warrant any fear of a setback; it is very likely that merinos will ■be firm, while crossbreds should advance slightly, say 5 per cent, for the most wanted grades. The clean-up wool sale at Wellington will be held on Friday, when the quantity to be offered will be about 2075 bales, made up as follows:— Bales. Dalgety and Co, ............ 700 N.Z. Loan . and Mercantile 500 Murray, Roberts and Co —.. 375 Levin and Co. 250 'Abraham, and Williams 250 Total , ; 2075 The wool to be offered is not of the best quality, although some. fine parcels are to be seen. - Customs revenue collected at Wellington yesterday amounted to £1349 17s. 6d. PALMERSTON MARKET REPORT, Mr.. Harry Palmer reports a fair : entry of pigs of . all classes at his Palmerston sale last-week. There was a firm demand, and-every line was sold' at improved prices! Porkers showed an* increase on last week's quotations. There was a very, heavy entry of poultry, and prices showed a decided increase, also a keen - demand for pullets, .which sold remarkably well considering quality and size. Over . .600 cases of .fruit were. marketed, and the whole disposed of at good average prices. The market for potatoes is firming—that is, for sound, prime samples free of blight.
