'■ Tho Town.Clerk reported that. arrangements had been made with the- City Tramways Department for the alteration m fares to come into force on May 1. Monthly tickets will be sold at the Worsor Bay Kiosk and at Mr.Patterson's store at. Miramar. The agreement vith;.,the' Wellington Gas Company in regard • to. the supply of gas . was considered by'" the council. It provides : for the supply by the Wellington Gas Company of gas for publio lighting aiid private use in the borough, and-sets, fortli :the terms upon which the reticulation and supply are to be carried out. The consent of the council to the 1 company's application for. an Order-in-Council authorising tho laying of a main between the Miramar- gasholder and the city works is reaffirmed, and the company is empowered to break up the streets for tho purpose of'laying mains, subject to their submitting plans and holding the council'indemnified ogainst any claims arising from outiou of their works. The-council'require tho company to erect 24 street-lamps,. to 'siippty gas for the same at a cost of £i 10s. per 60-candlc-power lamps per' anmiin, for a term of 21 years, and to undertake to charge private consumers a price not greater than that charged to city consumers. The borough reserves tho right to erect gas works atauytime and supply gas in tho district:-but it'iiiay'uot delegate its rights to any-other company for a : .term of 21 years. .Within three'years!'the company is to reticulate the settled portion ] of the district, but the borough may purchase tho reticulation at any time. In the event of tho borough exercising its right to purchasewithin 20 years, interest: is. to. beadded to the capital cost, thus enabling 'the.company 'to-got a return.for its money, but after 20 years tho works may lie taken over, at cost price. The reticulation, may bo taken .over at valuation after 25 years. In no 1 case is goodwill to- bo added to :the capital expenditure of the company. : In all cases the periods named are to bo 'reckoned from the .'date on wliich the company exercises its.right-to,connect the Miramar gasholder with the city works. " ; j The Mayor; in moving that the seal' of tho council be set to the' agreement, said that he thought the agreement was a very fair one. ■ Some time ago council and company were' rathor at loggerheads but they had now como to a settlement. The motion to, seal the agreement was carried. '. ' , ', -..-..' The Mayor then moved that the Government bo approached to grant the requisite powers—' an Order-in-Council-ehabling tho Gas Company to go on with their scheme. This was carried.. A deed was also signed - whereby the Gas Company agree to contribute ,£SOO to the subsidy of .£SOOO to the Wellington Harbour. Board in connection with their reclamation scheme.It was decided to grant a bonus of .£25 to the Town Clerk and Borough Engineer (Mr. R. E.' Bennett), and a bonus of £i to his assistant (Miss Bull). ■ At the conclusion of the business, the Mayor thanked tho council and tho rest of tho electors for returning him unopposed, and expressed his regret that Councillor Witt was not seeking re-election.
