ANOTHER STEP FORWARD. Tho recently-gazetted' corps of, Dominion Scouts has taken another step forward. On Tnosday a meeting was ' held at Gbdbcr's Cuba Street, for tho■■purpopo of 'receiving formal enrolments, and electing the officers. There was a fair attoiid.tueo. Captain Gardiner, N.Z.M., presided. Some discussion arose with reference to tho propriety of proceeding with the election of officers when there wore so many absentees, and dissatisfaction was expressed at the absence, without explanation, of Captain Dalrymple, who had previously been appointed temporarily to command tho corps until it was properly constituted. Scrgt. Malcolm (Seventh • N.Z Contingent) was strongly of opinion that the election should be held over, as he considered that the corps had been placed in an invidious position. It was, howcer, decided to "proceed with tho election. Tho election of commanding officer, for which Captains Dalrymple and Gaulinor were nominated, resulted m Captain Gardiner being appointed by a majority of 20 votes to 5. For the appointments of tho three subaltern officers, there were eight nominations; a ballot was therefore taken, with the result tint Messis. Houston, Laing, anti Mahoncy were declared duly elected. It was decided that a sub-committee, consisting of the officers and five representatives from the ranks, should confer with regard to the uniforms to' bo adopted and the supply of the same.
