HAWKE'S BAY'AUTUMN SHOW.

EARLIER DATE SUGGESTED. Every, year Hawke's Bay' becomes more and more a fruit-growing province. The-industry may, have been 6omewnat overlooked in past seasons, but every, season _ increases its importance. This fact was fairly evident at the Hawke's Bay Autumn Show on Wednesday, when undoubtedly the features were fruit and vegetables. Mr. .IP. Bennett, of Auckland, who acted as judge in both divisions, was agreeably astonished at the quality of the fruit exhibits. Remembering the excellent fruit- grown in Auckland, Jlr. Bennett said that ho was. quite unprepared l to seo such quality in Hawke's Bay, ana he felt that it .was only his duty in the oircumstances to give the Hawke's Bay district the praise which was due to it. Visitors from different portions of the island also commented very favourably upon the vegetable exhibits, which they considered superior even to those seen at the Manawatu A. and P. Winter Show. In conversation with a Dominion representative, Mr. Charles Douglas, the secretary of the Hawke'3 Bay A. ana P. Association, stated that the success of the show from a fruit point of view was most satisfactory. ; It was a fact, however, that' the end of March was fully a month too late, and it was probable that the question of holding an earlier, show would be considered by the association. On the other hand, an earlier show would, not suit the general farmers. There would be difficulty in determining what would be the best month for all.
