Tho Lord Mayor (Mr. Alien: Taylor)! presided over a groat citizens' meeting to welcome Professor David, who, with Mr. Mftwson (physicist) and Dr. Mackay, constituted the party that discovered the Magnetic Polo. Tlio doors of tlio ,'lown Hall wero closed early to prevent overcrowding. By an oversight Professor David was locked out, and was unable to gain an entranco for half an hour. The Federal Attorney-General (Mr. TV. M. Hughes) only succeeded in forcing his way through on tho hack of an alderman. Hundreds wore unable to gain admission. Profossor David, in tho courso of a spoech, said it had been almost as difficult to get into the gathering as it was to work a way up to tlw Magnetic Pole. In this connection ho wished to say with great emphasis that the Magnetic Polo was not discovered and not located by him, but by Mr. Mawson.
