THORNDON CLUB. Fairer weather could not bo than that which favoured the opening of tho Thorndon Bowling Club's green on Saturday afternoon. Greens should bo tho word really, as sinco last season tlio club lias addod a big nine-rink green to its raluablo property in Tinakori Road, mid though tho sward is young and tender it playod very well indeed, and tho officials were congratulated on all hands at the foresight they have displayod in securing tho land. Tho new green should bo spared as much as possible this season so as to give tho grass every chance of forming a firm sod, which is tho chief safeguard against dry seasons and hard play. At 2.30 p.m. tho Primo Minister, in a fow well-chosen remarks, declared the green open for tho soason. Ho said it was very nice to have such a placo to retire to away from the hurly-burly after the heat and burden of tho day, a pleasure that was doubled when tho sceno was enlivened with such beautiful women as were present. After the "jack" had been officially thrown, rinks were formed, and play was continued long after the sun had disappeared beneath tho Tinakori hills. The following are tho scores: —
