Spring. November 30 and Decoinber 1. —Feildmg J O Spring. December 26, 30, January 1 and 2. —Auckland R.C. Summer. REMINDER.

In connection with the annual raco meeting of the Waverloy-Waitotara Racing Club, to bo held on November 9, owners and trainers are reminded that nominations for all events close at 8 o'clock to-night, with the secretary, Mr. J. W. Emmerson, W'averley. Telegrams should bo placed on the wiro during the afternoon. NOTES AND COMMENTS. Wellington meeting commences at Trentham' on Wednesday. Racing at Oamaru on Thursday and Friday. First Slate was scratched for all engagements at ilasterton as soon as the weights appeared.

King Post is an unlikely starter at Trentham. Ho will most likely be reserved for tho Masterton Cup, in which event the Seaton Delaval gelding is to have the services of C. Jenkins.

Delenda, who ran third in the at Cauliiold on Saturday, is by San Francisco. Several' months ago ho was mentioned as likely' to bo heard of in tho Melbourne Cup, but has evidently not done all that was expected of him.

W. M'Lachlan, who rode Maranui to victory in the Caulfield Cup, also acted as pilot to Moolton at Randwick last week.

On Friday next entries for tho TaratahiCarterton Racing Club's meeting are due. On the same day acceptances for the first day's events at the "Masterton meeting must be made.

Jolly Roger and a couplo of trotting horses arrived from Blenheim by the Pateena on Saturday night.

A largo number of visiting horses put in an appearanco at Trentham on Saturday, and the remaining candidates aro expected to reach the scene to-uight. Tho Porirua team was taken out on Saturday morning. It includes Diabolo, Waimaria, Swimming Belt, Gold Crest, Gipsy Belle,. Kina (St. Ambroso—Seashell), Tawhaki, and Henry Oliver (Meriwee-Olivette). The last-named is a two-year-old that docs not claijn any engagements at Trentham. Ho has been taken over for educational purposes.

T. Wilson has arrived with Sir Single and Toango (by Conqueror), Goddard lias Tiptoe and Mallet on tho scene, and Pecchey has Malioe. H. Cutts arrived from the South yesterday morning with Applega'rth, Somersault, and Goldbeater. The two first-named aro Wcliesley Stakes candidates. _S. addell arrived on Saturday night,- and is located at tho Trentham Hotel with Xylophone (\\elesley Stakes candidate), Pellicle, Aorth Head, and some others. Other arrivals include Grenadier and California. Tho tracks aro looking in oxcellent condition, and some good gallops should bo recorded this morning.

On Saturday -morning the course proper was thrown open for fast work. Expansion alone galloped threo furlongs in 42soc. Elysian j)nd Provocation covered half a M mile, at tlireotquart'ers pace. Master Delaval .and. Master Soult were associated in a six furlong gallop, twhich occupied lmin. 23sec. Sir Frisco, alone," did seven furlongs in Imm. 36} sec., Prism and San Fernando taking a second longer over the same, journey. A number of others did useful work.

Yesterday morning several of tho Porirua candidates wero givon fast work, and the Karamu team was also on tlio trades, but no sensational times wero recorded.

F. E.'Jones mil, as usual, do t-ho riding of Sir Geo. Clifford's horses, and F. D. Jones and L. Wilson will bo the jockeys for the Hon. J. D. Ormond's horses. B. Deeley arrived from Hastings on Friday night, and has been assisting oil tho tracks. J. Stewart,. G. Jenkins, and R. M'Namara will be on tho course this morning. G. Price, A. Oliver, ft. Reid, and several other prominent horsemen will reach tho city to-night.

Maranui, winner of the Caulfield Cup, proved something of a disappointment last year, when ho was entered for several big races.. Ho won three small events at Sydney • suburban meetings, and was placed fourth in tho Sydney Cup. At Randwick last week he was third in the Spring Stakes and third in the Metropolitan Handicap, It is quite a coincidence that Maranui should win his first big raco in Victoria, for though iSew Zealand-bred himself, he comes from a sire and dam that wero raised in Victoria. He was got by Malatua (soil of the Melbourne Cup winner Malua) from Grafin by Carbine (also a Melbourne Cup winner). Malatua, who is now in New South Wales, won tho Jockey Club Handicap and tho Great Easter Handicap at Riccarton in 1899-1900. He is the sire of Mallet, who will ho-racing at Trentham on Wednesday.

Mr. D. O'Brien, who recently settled in Sydney, is best known as tho first owner of that equine wonder, Carbine. Ho won the first New Zealand Cup with Tasman, and owned numerous other liorses which won important races in different parts of New Zealand Of recent years ho has been rather unlucky, and in 1906 ono of his horses, Multifid, ran second in tho New Zealand Cup, and a month later' Grenada ran second for him in the Auckland Cup. It almost looked as if bad luck was going to attend tho career of Maranui,' but Saturday's victory should make amends for his defeat in tho Sydney Cup last autumn.

WELLINGTON PONY AND CALLOWAY RAGINC CLUB'S OCTOBER MEETINC. VERONIQUE WINS THE MEMBERS' CUP. The October meeting of the Wellington Pony and Galloway Racing Club took place at Mirjiraar on Saturday afternoon. Iho fino weather attracted an excellent attendance, and the fixture passed off satisfactorily. The fields were better-'than usual, and a couplo of really good races were witnessed. The principal event, the Members' Cup, was won bv Veronique, who was sent out a hot favourite. Wee Nannio fell at tho homo bend in the first race and brought dowp Lady Dauphin, but neither of tho riders was seriously injured. An unfortunate accident occurred during tho afternoon by which one of the spectators, a young man named Magco, had his leg broken. Mageo wns watching the race for tho October Handicap, over the rails in the straight, and, thinking all the horses had finished, got through tho rails to mako for tho enclosure, with 'tho result that the horse Dan O'Connell, who was tailing tho field, galloped on him and brolto his leg. Ho was taken into the Stewards' Room, where first aid was administered and ho was then removed to tho hospital. The following aro tho results of tho races: —
