FIRES.

DAIRY FACTORY DESTROYED. • ■ (BY TELEGEAI'U—SI'ECIAI. CniIItESroNDENT.) Feilding, February 3. At 11 o'clock on Saturday night' the manager of the Apiti Dairy Factory noticed flames issuing from the factory building. He. proceeded- to the place as guickly as possible and made every effort to quench the fire, but having-, got a good hold it was found to be impossible to check it. Other helpers arrived in good numbers, and a big struggle was mado, but owing to the'absence of fire-fight-ing appliancos, no headway could be made against the flames. Fourteen boxes of butter wore rescued from the building, and everything else, including t-ltfe books and papers belonging to the company, was destroyed. It is not known how the fire started, but it is believed that the fire in the engine-room may have bqen the cause. The'damage is estimated at £3000. The . South British Fire Insurance Company held an insurance on the building and plant for' £700. ; The Table Flat' Creamery had a narrow : cscapc from being destroyed by the bysli fires on Friday night, and it cannot yet be said to be out of danger.

' BLOCK OF BUILDINGS BURNED. (Dr XEr.EGEAni—mess association.) Dargaville, February 3. A fire at Ivaihu early on Sunday morning destroyed a block of buildings comprising Oliver s store,' G. Linoham's billiard saloon and store,'and J. Lineham's storeroom and !on the stool; in the State office ; G. Lincham,' £400 oii, the stock in the Liverpool,. London, and Glofao ; J. Linehain, £250 on the stock and £150 on the house and furniture in the Liverpool, London, and Globe..' The damage done was much in excess of the insurance. > INCENDIARISM SUSPECTED. HOUSE DESTROYED. Stratford, February 3. A six-roomed house at Midliurst, owned and occupied by H. Robertson, was totally destroyed by lire last night. The building was insured for £200, and the contents ior £100 in the State oflice.
