DAIRY FACTORY DESTROYED. • ■ (BY TELEGEAI'U—SI'ECIAI. CniIItESroNDENT.) Feilding, February 3. At 11 o'clock on Saturday night' the manager of the Apiti Dairy Factory noticed flames issuing from the factory building. He. proceeded- to the place as guickly as possible and made every effort to quench the fire, but having-, got a good hold it was found to be impossible to check it. Other helpers arrived in good numbers, and a big struggle was mado, but owing to the'absence of fire-fight-ing appliancos, no headway could be made against the flames. Fourteen boxes of butter wore rescued from the building, and everything else, including t-ltfe books and papers belonging to the company, was destroyed. It is not known how the fire started, but it is believed that the fire in the engine-room may have bqen the cause. The'damage is estimated at £3000. The . South British Fire Insurance Company held an insurance on the building and plant for' £700. ; The Table Flat' Creamery had a narrow : cscapc from being destroyed by the bysli fires on Friday night, and it cannot yet be said to be out of danger.
