Cromwell District High School
The monthly meeting of the commit tee was held on toth inst. Present, Mr L. M. Jolly (Chairman), Mrs Oldfield, Messrs Cowey, Jelley, and Ellis. The Education Board advised that relieving 1 additional assistant had heen approved for Cromwell, but that no teachers were ' available at present, in the meantime Mrs Cottee, who has had previous experience, has been asked to act in that capacity. It was reported that the three new stoves
been insalled at the school but did not seem to be drawing as well as could be desired. The visiting committee was asked to look into this matter. One of the old stoves is now installed in the teachers room, one is to be sent to the Boards workshop in Dunedin, and one handed to Baunockburn School Committee.
The chairman reported that Messrs Moiler and Sons submitted a sketch of the proposed Fleming Memorial Plate which was very satisfactory, and the firm had been instructed to proceed with the work.
The Alexandra Clinic Committee wrote asking that Cromwell contribute a share of jQ\ towards the cost of an electric hot plate now being used by the Dental Nurse and which was paid for by them. As the fitting was used for the benefit of the children attending the Cromwell school payment of the amount was approved. The chairman complimented the Headmaster on the programme of sport and ground improvement ho had mapped out, and also expressed appreciation of the interest and assistance of Mr Belcher in the latter direction.
The Headmaster reported that the secretary had submitted copies of the Meccano Magazine to him. and he desired this magazine to be procured and placed on the magazine bench for the us(- of pupils. It is evident that pupils are being encouraged to do morr- and more research work for themselves.
Messrs Cowey and Key were appointed a visiting committee for the month.
