Cromwell Bowling Club

The annual meeting of the above was held in the pavilion on Monday evening-, 2nd inst, before a good attendance of members and with Mr D. Nicol, president, in the chair. The report aud balance-sheet showing a credit balance of ,£l2 is 3d were adopted. The following is the report:—"Your Committee has pleasure in presenting the annual report for the year 1936-37. At the outset it can be said that the season was a very successful one, there being ample competitions and all players being well catered for in the matter of Saturday matches. The balancesheet indicates that the Club's finances are in a satisfactory condition there being a credit balance of is 3d. The membership, too, shows an increase of five, the total strength of the club being 46 members. The following players met with success during the year;—Mr H. T. Wilkinson won the Club Single Championship. Mr W; E. Jelley being the' runner-up. Mr Ern. Jolly won the Club Handicap Singles, Mr G. Stumbles. Jnr., D. 11. Nicol and Dr. Austin reached the final but were dejfeatcd by Miller's Mat. Millers Flat 'also uon the Centre Shield and are ' to be congratulated on their dual win. The club was represented at the Alexandra. Christmas Tournament, Mr | I Wilkinson winning the Singles while' a rink comprising Messrs S. Fletcher, L. M. Jolly, Dr. Austin, and D. E. Nicol, reached the semi-final. Mr | Wilkinson and Mr W. E. Jelley were finalists in the Pairs competition j held by the Centre during Easter, the | winners being Messrs Perrow and MacPherson of Pembroke. In order to eradicate moss from the green, I Mr Trevathan and Mr Wni. Jelley ' have from time to time, treated the green with a suitable mixture and although the full benefit will not be apparent for some little time their efforts in this direction are appreciated. In conclusion your committee wishes to thank all those who, during the seasou. have assisted in the work of the Club and trusts that the coming season will be one of pleasure for all."

The following officers were electee, for the coming season.—President. Mr A. Stephens; vice-presidents, Messrs G. Stumbles jnr., and J. Storey; secretary and treasurer, Mr A. S. Paull; general committee, president, vice-presidents, and Messrs D. Nicol, K. Jolly, J. Grant, Dr. Austin. W. J«'Hey, H. T. Wilkinson, C. Smart, R. Thomas, D. Cahill. L. Jollv; sole selector, Mr J. F. Smith; delegates Dr. Austin and H. T. Wilkinson • grcenkeeper, Mr r. Trevathan ; green supervisor, Mr Wm. lellev. The opening date " was fixed for October 23 rd. The subscriptions were fixed at £z 5s to be reduced to £2 if paid bv 3'st December. The following new members were proposed:—Messrs Thos. Blackie, G Robertson, R. W. Scott. J. McWil--1 ia ins.
