Methodist Church Anniversary Social.

A successful social was held on Tuesday evening last m the Methodist Church, the occasion being the Church Anniversary. Rev. R. Middleton Taylor was chairman of the proceedings. After-a hymn and prayer, an instrumental item was. given by Mrs Forsyth (piano), Messrs L. M. Jolly (violin), Yeoman ('Cello), and R. McNaught (Trombone). This was an excellent item. Miss McFlligott (harmed her hearers with two songs, "A String- ot Pearls," and "The Kerry Dance. This lady is a great acquisition to the local talent. Mr P. Gibson recited Kipling's "If" in a masterly style. A Glo*> followed—'Oli Hush Thee My Baby," t'liia being sung by a.combined choir. It was the best item by Hie choir. Mrs J. Richards was m good f voice and sang "Killarncy/ and lo fca Miniature." These were grca.ij enjoyed. Master Syd Vcrcoo, dressed as a young lady, sang "Won k /ou Buy My Pretty Flowers," accompanying himself on the piano. It was quite a novel item. Mr Jas. Towan sang the solo part of "Carry me J>acb to Old Virginnv," the chorus being sung by members of the choir. Master Allan Smart recited ""The Rainbow." and .11 response to an encore gave "Admirals Ml." .Mian is a favorite reciter. A piano duet by Miss Mavis and Master j Robert Smart was splendidly given, and an encore was demanded. " A Summer Ride" and "A Sleigh Ride were the two selections played. Mr A. O. Bridgmau, circuit .steward, gavo tho church report, which stated that the work was satisfactorily maintained through the year. The Sun day School was being successfully . «*rried on by Mr J. Stephens and Miss B Smart. The officials wished to thank thq Organists—(Mrs Cowev, Misses Young, Gordon, and D Stephens)—whose eports helped so much to brighten the services. Mra Campbell (Bannockburn), Mrs Fuicon (Ripponvale), Miss O. Gordon (Cromwell), were thanked heartily tor collecting sustentation and Mr R. Olds and Mr M. Ritchie for collecting liarvest donations. Death had claimed one from among the members, Miss L. Stephens, and the sympathy of tho Church went out to the parents anu brother. Mr R. Orr then sang "Hail, Caledonia," and had to respond with "Land, of Gra-ma-Chree." He was in excellent voice. "The Bells ot ot. Mary," was/ sung by Miss Zeala Sanders, the refrain being harmonised by the choir. This was an enjoyaole item. Mr F. Gibson then sang that fine old song, '-Tom Bowling" very pleasingly. Another Glee by the choir "When song is Sweet,' was sung, a.ter which the Orchestra (inducting Mr T. Fleming), played two more items to the delight of those present. Mr Yeoman conducted the choir, and Mrs Forsyth acted as accompanist daring the evening, and it is needless to add that this lady's task was very proficiently done. Mr Taylor thanked one and all for their attendance, and the artists for their efforts to make the social so enjoyable. He specntly mentioned the work of Mrs Forsyth and Mr Yeoman, and he also thanked his Circuit Stewards (Messrs A. O. Bridgman and Jno. Stephens);, tor their Refreshments were- then handed round by the ladies of the congregation, and the singing of i»:e "Doxology," and the Benediction brought a very fine social to a close .
