Vincent County Council

Tho ordinary monthly meeting of the above council, held in the Council Chambers, Clyde, on Thursday last, was attended by Crs. Jas. Ritchie (chair), A. C Secular, S. A. Stevens, R. Butcher, C Weaver, F. Partridge, W. D. Naylor, a)id D. Urquhart. The minute. 3of the previous meeting- were read and confirmed. Correspondence was read and dealt with as under:. —

Isaac Taylor, Hawea, drew attention to the* bad state of the jetty at head of Lake. The inspector said that the timber from the Albertown punt would do the work.—Temporary repairs to be carried out. The county solicitor wrote enclosing cheque for £iss ' s *<**> arrears of rates from ratepayers. Messrs Vickerman and Lancaster wrote re plan ol" Clyde bridge, and estimates supplied to Highways Board. The writers suggested that two copies of plans should be sept to the High Commissioner's Office, London, llic estimate of the cost was £7,600, and it was thought that a third ot that amount would be required in the coming; year The chairman stated that tne county's share of the cost would be roughly £2,500. _ In replv tq a question the cierK produced "a statement showing that the bridge loan stood at a credit ut £278. The Chief Postmaster, Dunedin, wrote asking that the road Pembroke to the now Makarora road be gravelled.—Received. The Commisioner of Crown Lands wrote re suggestion tu reduce Hie width of the road on the east side of jM'anulierjkin settlement (Omakau),

in the vicinity of the footbridge by 25 links. There was a.mplo room for the road and there could be no objection.—Consent given.

Cr Partridge asked that the road to Mr Willson's, Liigtrate, be put in order. and suggested that it be ploughed and graded. thought more assistance was necessary to inako a decent gabion.—Work to bo inspected. Good werk bad been done to tbo road to IJawksburn and good work was also' being done on tho road to Nevis.

It was agreed that the road giving access to Whelan's run, below Alexandra, be attended to, at an expenditure of ,£IOO. On Cr Stevens' suggestion it was agreed to keep unemployed on tho Ovde-Cromweli road. Cr Butcher i>ointcd out that the docking of the bridge at the homestead, Ida Valley, wanted renewing, and some gravelling; was wanted 111 the same locality. Gravel was handy and a lorry could do the work in a WC ek. —The inspector to have these works don*. . . Cr Scoular asked that a chain oi gravelling and a pipe line near Mr J. Macdonald's, Matakanui), was badly wanted.— Authority given lor these works. . Cr Weaver asked that some gravelling be done to road to Mr lleenan's, Earnscleugb.—Agreed to. With regard lo the removal ol the rock near the Alexandra bridge, Cr Weaver was authorised to arrange lor the removal of same. The dog registrar reported having 1 registered the following dogs.—Slß at 2s 6d. ic6 at ss. and id at 10s. The treasurer' statement showed a credit of ,£2,013, or "bout .£SOO better than at this sfcge last year. The county ranger reported having impoinuled %t head of stock since last meetiny of the council.—Cr Scoular asked that the ranger inake another visit to Matakanui district The council then went into committee the reporti on resuming being: Resolved —That the schedule of accounts amounting- to 4s yd be passed for payment.
