Sports and Pastimes.

BOWLING. The first: match of the season for the coveted ".Tolly" Memorial Cup was played at Cromwell on Saturday, between Dunstan (challengers), and Cromwell (holders). The weather was fine, the green m good order, and a crowd of interested spcctalois wit nessed the match. The rinks were : Cromwell : J. M'Donald, W. Olds, Er. Jolly, and G. M'Donald (s) ; Dunstan : Sutherland, Piper, Bringans, and Davidson (s). The early stages of the game were evenly contested, and at the end of six heads scores were even, seven all. Prom that stage Cromwell gradually established a lead and carried ten heads to Dunstan's five, ultimately retaining the trophy, 23-12. Afternoon tea provided by the ladies was vary acceptable and duly appreciated. The board was as follows :

TENNIS. Representatives of the Alexandra club visited Cromwell on Saturday, and met the local team. It was an ideal day for tennis, -uu\ after some interesting games Cromwell again prevailed to the tune of <!!) games. Several of the games produced strenuous contests, the most exciting being between one of Cromwell's young brigade, E. Stephens, and Hewitt an experienced player in the ranks )f the Alexandra, reps. Willi the score eight all, the final game was exciting and deuce was called several times before the Alexandra man gained the victory. Cromwells principal losses were in the Mens Singles, but thereafter only one set was lost. The ladies of the club weic lavish in the arrangements for refreshments and treated the visitors most hospitably. The results were as follows, Cromwell players being given first. Men's Singles.
