Cromwell Athenaeum Committee.

The monthly meeting of the above was held on Tuesday. Present : Messrs Shore (chairman), Jolly, Wisharf, Stephens, Richards, aud Smart. Inward correspondence included a letter from the Fire Underwriters Association re alterations 'to the electric lighting installation at the hall, and another from Messrs G. 13. Ij lidlaw and Sons re a piano. These were reccived« The treasurers report showed a credit balance of .£(53 ~>s Id. —Approved and adopted. Accounts amounting to JM 16s lOd were passed for payment. Mr Jolly reported that at the request of the'manager of the Rise and Shine dredge, he had visited the reserve, in company with Dr Shore. The dredgemaster suggested working the ground on lines which he considered an advantage to the committee. Mr Jolly briefly outlined the proposals, and thereafter the following resolutions were carried : That the action of the dredgemaster of the Rise and Shine C), in depositing the tailiugs,at the top boundary of the claim out in the river instead of against the bank as in the agreement, and thus turn the current of the river, be approved. That this committee ;.greos to allow the Rise and Shine Co. to dredge the portion of the ground between pegs 43 and Kin, and 4(5 and 48, which is inside the boundary, so us to deposit their tailings against the solid bank of the reserve. The chairman reported that two pianos were under offer to the committee and it was decided to purchase one at the price cf £oQ, provided the report thereon was favorable. The signing of Mr M. L. Spratt's lease to Mr W. Tisdall was confirmed. The question of the land, aud the erection of the new library, was held over until next meeting. The secretary was instructed to obtain prices for additional seats for the hall. Resolved—That steps be taken to dispose of the spare dynamo. The usual vote to the chair closed the meeting.

At a meeting of the Otago Laud ! Bjard, held iu Dunedin on Wednesday, the transfer of section 20, block V, | Lower llawea, 310 acres 0 roods 2-1 [ poles, from Mr P. A. Callings to Messrs K tynor, Cecal, and Loo Collings, was approved. A splendid freehold farm at llawea is advertised for private sale.
