The Cromwell Bowling Club opcne|j ilie season on Saturday, and was favore with ideal weather. \ isiting from all the Central clubs assembled, while enthusiasts from Bannockburn were also prtscut, and there was a big attendance of the public. The green was in good order. In his opening speech, the president, M - N. C. \ eoman, welcomed the visitors. Kef erring to the game generally, he said that judging by increased membership and the enthusiasm of players the game was going ahead. The local club had a most successful season last year, and succeeded in retaining the Centra. Shield and “ Jolly ” Cup. This year their membership had increased, and the latest proposal was to lay down a croquet lawn for the ladies. He referred to the prospect of a club and green at Bannockburn, a statement that was greeted with applause. The president then declared tlie green open, Mrs \ eoman rolled the first bowl, “a toucher,” and six rinks were soon hard at work, the presidents side scoring a win by a narrow margin Afternoon tea was provided by the president and Mrs Yeoman, in a most lavish manner, and music by the Croni* well Brass Band added to the success of the function. The Baunockburu club has been promised some handsome donations and received offers of free labor towards laying down a green. The club is hope* i'ul of securing the services of Mr Collins, Luggale, in carrying out the work.
