j. E ROM OUK OWN COKRKSrONL»KNT- J The Soldier’s Ball, which was held at Pembroke on the 10th inst., was quite a success. There was. a large gathering, including some thirty returned men, and a most enjoyable time was spent. The refreshments were on a lavish scale, and the dance music, Mijplhd by Mr llaidie and others, was of the best, Mr Bremnor was M.C. Mr Taplin, on behalf of the returned soldieis, acknowledged the hospitality that had been extended to them. A meeting of the pianoforte committee was held in the library room on Saturday last The treasurer reported having a little over .£45 in hand. It was decided to write at once for catalogues, and upon receipt of these to make arrangements lor chocsing the instrument. The same day a meeting of tire tennis club was held. There was a fair attendance of members and considerable interest shown, A dance in aid of the club is to bo held on Wednesday next. There passed a way last week in Dunedin, at her daughter’s residence, a well-known Pembroke resident in the person of Mrs W. Ford, Deceased lived many years at Pembroke, and was held in much respect. The funeral took place at Pembroke on Sunday last, the llcv. J. Kyley being the officiating clergyman. The sympathy of the district is extended to the bereaved relatives.
