Mr T. A. Wilson, formerly on the staff of the local post office, and a prominent figure in the athletic world, has been appointed postmaster at Alexandra, and takes up his duties at an early date. A visitor last week to his native town was Mr Jno. Cahill, who arrived home on Wednesday evening after an absence of some twenty four years. In his younger days “ Jack ” was a leading light in the athletic world locally, and is still as keen as ever in the world of sport. In conversation with our reporter, he expressed surprise at the extensive settlement in i the back portion of the town, but like i many others, considers the main street ! the worst part of our city. For some : time Mr Cahill has been in the Government employ, dealing with v£ool on behalf of the Imperial authorities, and'finds his early training in the Central now standing him in good stead. He is particularly "interested in his visit to his native town, and above all is in good form and is enjoying good health Needless to say he is spending an interesting time renewing old acquaintances. His employment necessitated his leaving again for the North Island this morning. The death occurred in Dunedin a few days ago, of Miss Mabel Robertson, a member of a former wellknown Cromwell family. The young lady, who was 17 years of age, had been ailing for some time. Her death brings the fifth bereavement to the family in a few years, and residents will join in extending their sympathy to the family in their time of trouble.
