Obituary.

Another of the fast diminishing pioneers of the early mining industry of Otago and West Coast passed aNvay on Tuesday last, February 27th, at Hawea Flat,* in the person of Mr John Kerin, brother of Mr Junes Kerin, of this town, of Mts M'Carthy, Texchemakers, and the bte Patrick Kerin, of Arrowtown. The deceased was a native of Ireland, and arrived in Victoria in 1861 by the ship "Donald M'Kay," engaging in different occupations there, arriving in New Zealand 1862, following up the many gold rushes of Otago and West Coast, ultimately settling down at Cardrona, engaging in farming and pastoral pursuits there and in Westland for many years, purchasing in 1897 the farm at Hawea Flat of the late Fox Bros., where he resided until his death, farming large areas of grain of splendid quality, for which the district, is noted. The deceased was married in 1875 to Miss M'Carthy, of Oamaru, who survives him. together with a grown up The deceased bad been in failing health for upwards of three years and passed peacefully away at the advanced age of 77 years, and was interred at Hawea l?l.it comstery on Thuoday, riio' funeral being largely attended by the settlors \aud others of the district, the Rev. Father Hunt officiating.
