Patriotic Carnival.

Preliminary arrangements are well advanced for the Patriotic Carnival to be held at Cromwell on Saturday, 17th March. The committee met on Friday eve, ing, Mr A. M. Brodrick presiding. The Side-shows committee reported having held a meeting., and that arrangements for their part of the programme were well under way. The Sports Committee stated that a meeting had been held and that they would meet again early in the week. They had in hand a programme of events in which, the children and youths were not to be forgotten. They suggested that a guessing competition on the nett proceeds of the carnival should be held and this suggestion was adopted. The refreshments and Stalls committee reported that there-would be a Refreshment Stall, Sweets Stall, and Flower Stall, and they forwarded a list of their requirements. The Produce committee were at work, and had already secured promises of poultry, gram, etc. They anticipated meeting with good support from the country districts. No report was to hand from the Musical Committee owing to the absence of the convener from town, but it was stated that he was at work. The Grounds Committee reported that they were ready to set to work as soon as they knew what was required. It was reported that arrangements were practically completed for the appearance of " Mr Spondulix," whose mysterious personality has excited so much interest in Northern centres.
