DUNEDIN, THIS DAY. Heavy rain cm Saturday morning and showers in the afternoon put a stop to all outdoor sports and a large number of the trades picnics. As a sequel to the disturbance in Christchurch caused by youths and others against a Chinese fruitshop, Bryce, a fruit hawker was charged with causing people to congregue so as to impede the traffic. The hearing was adjourned. Mr Elworthy’s home station in South Canterbury divided into fourteen farms, was submitted to auction, but only a few bids were obtained. At the Wanganui races the Jackson Stakes was won by Ermengarde, with Royal Scotch second, and Autumnus third. At the Victorian Autapon race meeting the results were : Hurdles : Mettle 1, Brownie 2. St Leger ; Wiluri 1, Jacamar 2. Newmarket Handicap: Desire 1, Desert Rose 2, Mountain Princess 3. Sires’ Produce Stakes : Sheriff Muir 1, Wolawa 2. Essendon Stakes : Trafalgar I, Comedy King 2, Cadonia 3. Brunswick Stakes : Kurnell 1, Prince Lock 2.
