The Taranaki land speculator is turning his attention to further fields, and the wild country north of Auck* land is spoken of as a kind of land agent's Eldorado, In New Plymouth they tell of a big block of virgin country in the Bay of Islands district that was hawked about, and could not find a purchaser at as low as 8s per acre. By-and bye prices hardened in that district, and two young men of Taranaki bought the block at 12s an acre; They bought it, inas* much as they signed the necessary documents of purchase and put down a deposit of £100 ; (Rumor says that they had to " rajse the wind" for that). Anyway, certain shrewd men became alive to the possibilities of the land for stock raising, and the young sold their block at 80s an acre, netting a clear £20,000 !
