Clyde Notes

(FitoM Ova Own Cohuesl'ondExVT.) Notwithstanding the lateness of the season the ninth annual show, held in the town hall on Thursdav last, can safely be considered one of the most successful held under the auspices of the Horticultural society. The number of entries fell slightly short of last year, but the exhibit in pot plants was a show iu itself. In border plants the exhibits were not up to previous years/ though the petunias exhibited by Mr Springer were fit for any shew in the country. Exhibits in vegetable marrows and cucumbers were missing, but all other sections wore well filled. The absence of Roxburgh fruit was very noticeable, but the local growers turned out to a man. For most points in fruit Mr Dawson, from Conroys, was successful in annexing the cup, whilst Mr Springer, of Cromwell, had an easy win for the cup in the floral section. The special train from Alexandra was liberally patronised, about 150 arriving from that end. During the evening songs were contributed by Mrs Thomson. Miss Pearson, and Mr G. Holloway. These items were very acceptable. The society would do well in future to arrange for more items of this nature. The special priz<3 list was one of the best the society has ever had, and spechl thanks are due to Mrs Kenning and Mr F. Jeffrey for the very successful canvass they made. The result of the show will be to place the society on a very sound financial basis. It is proposed to offer a cup value £2O for most points in fruit, to be won twice in succession or three times at intervals, which means that we are fast approaching California Special thanks are due to the members of the committee for the great interest shown and thoir attention to exhibitors.
