Sydney, August 27. Broken Hill bakers and bread carters struck work owing to the master bakers declining t> raise the price of bread from threepence to fourpence for the 2!b loaf, so that the Union Co-operative bakery could make a profit. The steamer Indraui had loaded coal and was ready to depart for Newcastle on Friday when a firo was discovered smouldering among 700 tons of coal in her starboard bunker. Despite the fact that large quantities of water have been poured into the vessel the fire steadily gained and looked like spreading to the main cargo. Much gas was generated and caused two explosions. The fire was eventually mastered, but the damage is con siderable and the full extent will not be known until an examination has been made. The steamer Canonhar collided with the Ulimaroa yesterday while the latter was lying at the wharf. The Ulimaroa was not damaged, but the Canonbar was slightly damaged. The Ulimaroa, which leaves tor Wellington to-day, has been fitted with a complete wireless installation. She is the first steamer trading to New Zealand to be so equipped. Melbourne, Aug 27, The verdict of the coroner's court in the Richmond Railway disaster is that Signalman M'Donald erred in holding up the Brighton train, but there was no evidence of wicked or criminal negligence against anyone,
