(From our own Correspondent.) The monthly meeting of the committee of the above league was held at the Schoolhouse last Saturday. There was present Mr John Kane" (in the chair), and a good attendance of members. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. Correspondence. From Mr J. Horn replying to a request to act as delegate from this League, and stating he would not be going to Wellington during this session.—Received. From the Secretary of Pembroke League, forwarding copies of a printed circular and letter for distribution.— Received. From the Superintendent Tourist Department, re advertising the attractions of Hawea and Wanaka.— ReceivedIt was resolved that Mr J. A. McPherson, M.H.R., be written to as follows:—" Be good enough to urge on the Government the necessity, in. the interests of the settlers who have waited so long in expectation of the railway ultimately reaching here, of having a vote placed on the estimates this session for the extension of the Otago Central beyond Clyde. However slow the progress of the line might be, such a contingency as a stoppage at Clyde was never anticipated, and the suggestion of it comes lather as a rude shock to the people." Proposed by Mr Smith, seconded by Mr McCarthy, that seeing there is a vote granted by Parliament for telephone extension to the back blocks, the Government be asked to have an extension made to Maungawera and Makarora, these places, especially the latter, being much in want of a telephone in cases of emergency and sickness. —Carried. The meeting closed with a vote of thanks to the chair.
