Meeting of Householders at Hawea Flat.

Last Monday evening the annual meeting of householders for the election of a school committee was held at the schoolhouse, Hawea Flat. Only half-a-dozen householders put in an appearance—a fact which does not augur well for the interest taken in school matters. Mr M. Allison was voted to the chair. The report and balance-sheet, showing a credit balance of £7 9s 6d on the 31st of March, were read and adopted, on the motion of Mr 8, Hansen, seconded by Mr Kingau. The report went to ■ show that the school was in a satisfactory During the past two years the attendance of children had steadily increased. The last report from the headmaster showed that the average attendance of children was 59, with a roll number of 67. During the Christmas holidays a change of •taff took place. Mr A. J. Ferguson (head teacher) and Miss C. Brown (mistress) resigning their positions, the vacancies being filled by Mr Wm. Alexander (headteacher) and Miss W. Valentine (Mistress). One nomination was received by the Chairman, and five were nominated in the room, leaving one short of the required number to form a committee. The following wore declared duly elected:—Messrs 8. Hansen, R. Kingan, W. Smith, A. Hansen, W. Allison, and D. Urquhart.
