THE PRICE OF FLOUR.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —l would like to draw the attention of the public of this district to the way the farmer is handicapped through not being able to get a market for his produce, and for wheat in particular. You mentioned, Sir, some weeks ago that the best price for wheat at the Hawea Flat was 2s per bushel, and such is the case. Now if a farmer wants to bring fleur from the local mill he has to pay .£lO per ton for it, and when you figure out the cost of producing the flour, at 2s 3d per bushel for wheat at the mill, there is a profit of approximately £4 per ton, when you allow for the by-products. Surely such a thing cannot last. Thanking you in anticipation for publishing this,—l am, Sir, yours, etc. Farmer.
