Tinned Rabbit Trade.

The state men t of fclie Victorian Agent-General that the price of Australian rabbits for the coming season will probably be lOd or lid is a matter for congratulation to runholders in A ristralia'. At a conference held a short time ago to consider what should be done to check the pest it was stated that in New South Wales, alone thousands of acres had to be abandoned through being, infested with the unconquerable bunnies, while thousands of miles of rabbit-proof fencing had been erected without producing anyappreciable effect. Indeed so alarming has this pest become that human ingenuity seems powerless to check its ravages, and the conference summoned for so unique a purpose could only recommend that the lands should be protected by a huge network system of fencing. The Agent-General is confident that a very large trade in frozen rabbits can be secured with the manufacturing centres, and provided that his conhdence is not misplaced the means of successfully combating the evil will at once be forthcoming. If the rabbit can be made an article of export with a marketable value, he may before long prove a blessing to Australia instead ot a curse. At present the mischievous little rodent thrives so well on Australian grass and multiplies so rapidly that the thousand-and-one specifics employed for his destruction are useless.—Exchange.
